Proud Sponsors

Matt and I are the proud sponsors of a wonderful, soon-to-be 9 year-old boy from Africa. We just finished writing him a letter earlier this evening, which is a major thing for us. We have been consistent with our giving for the last 5 years, but we have only written a few letters. Bad, bad sponsors, yet very proud and glad to do what we can. (These are pictures drawn about 3 months ago that we just got in the mail along with a letter...)

Cool! I didn't know you were doing that. What country in Africa? What language does he speak?

He speaks Swahili and lives in Kenya. I wanted to pick a kid from one of the countries I had lived in, so we went with him. It's hard enough to come up with stuff to talk to him about, even though I grew up there. Jen says that I did well writing a letter to him though.

I liked him because he had on the brightest colored shirt out of all the kids in the pictures. He was also very young, and we wanted to be with a child for the long-term.

(Actually, it was kind of a quick decision, as we signed up at Cornerstone Festival in 2002 - Matt had me sign up, since I had the $$, and he didn't mind too much making that kind of a commitment because we weren't even engaged at the time.) :-)
